26/10/2006 - Former Champneys Executive Buys Clumber Park Hotel
A former Champneys’ senior executive has bought the three-star Clumber Park Hotel, Nottinghamshire, from Corus Hotels.
Derek Macdonald - who has held a number of key roles within the hospitality sector and developed his career with the Sheraton, Hilton and Marriott brands - has also secured significant investment to enhance the 48-bedroomed hotel nestling on the edge of Sherwood Forest.
The acquisition has been funded by the Moorgarth Group, a Leeds-based private investment company, and they, along with Mr Macdonald, said they would reveal their investment proposals to the hotel team first before going public with them.
Currently the hotel has seven meeting rooms which can cater for up to 250 people, 150-space car park, business centre, carvery and restaurant.
Mr Macdonald said: “Clumber Park Hotel is a fantastic opportunity for us and its unrivalled location, with easy access to motorways and the developing Robin Hood airport, makes it an ideal venue for conferences, business meetings, weddings, and tourists wanting to explore the nearby attractions of Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest.
“It’s our intention to provide major investment to the hotel, as well as supporting local initiatives, which will enable us to offer guests services they haven’t experienced here before.
“This will take Clumber Park Hotel into a new era, making it more attractive not only to leisure tourists but also for businesses and conference organisers too.”
Mr Macdonald stressed the current Clumber Park Hotel team would play a continuing and significant role in the hotel’s future.
