Sherwood Forest

Our Hotel and Spa is located in the heart of Sherwood Forest and literally on the doorstep of the National Trust’s largest UK site – Clumber Park.. The Forest is managed by the Forestry Commission and offers walks, trails and a host of other activities. Part of the forest has been designated a National Trust Reserve.

Some portions of the forest still retain many very old oaks, especially in the portion known as the Dukeries, which was so called because it used to contain five ducal residences in proximity to one another. The famous Estates of Welbeck, Rufford, Clumber and Chatsworth are true architectural wonders to behold and provide a wonderful backdrop to your day out exploring. Your day will not be complete without a visit to the world famous Welbeck Farm Shop supplying the delicious freshly prepared joys from the internationally renowned School of Artisan Food.

Also known as the stomping ground of Robin Hood and the Major Oak, known as Robin’s principal hideout is worth a visit – it’s over 800 years old. Take a look around the visitors centre and have a go at drawing your own bow and arrow!

The River Idle, a tributary of the River Trent, is formed in Sherwood Forest from the confluence of several minor streams. Take a look around and enjoy your walk on the wild side……
